Guidelines for submitting art files
InDesign, QuarkXpress, PageMaker, and more
- Create the document file to the overall form size, including stubs and margins if applicable
- For perfect or wire binding, create it as single pages and allow bleeds on all four sides of the page.
- Include 1/8th inch bleeds to all backgrounds and images when necessary. Custom trim marks are not necessary.
- Regarding filenames, keep them simple and please don't include special characters such as: / or \ or - or ·
Adobe Illustrator, Macromedia Freehand, and more
- Convert type to outlines or paths to avoid font issues (remember to backup a copy of the file before converting).
- Save or export all linked files as .eps (include a native file for all Freehand files used).
- When working with spot colors, you should avoid complex transparency effects.
- Keep spot color naming consistent from file to file and from one application or another.
Adobe Photoshop
- All images should be 300 dpi for best print reproduction.
- All images should be CMYK, grayscale or duotone/tritone in mode.
- Save CMYK/grayscale image as tiffs (LZW compression can be applied).
- Save images with clipping paths or duotone/tritones as an eps.
- All RGB images should be converted to CMYK.
- Avoid over-scaling images (75-125%) when placing into your layout program -- sample down a copy of larger images to save disk space and processing time.
Fonts
- Include both screen and printer fonts.
- Include fonts used within illustration files (illustrator, freehand).
- Avoid using stylization in your application for fonts you do not have.
